Summer Literacy & Book Buddies
This summer we partnered with San Antonio ISD transportation and library teams to promote literacy through Book Buddies, a new program of The SAISD Foundation. Book Buddies will be an integral partner in promoting literacy in SAISD schools this year, with a plan to reach students at nearly 40 campuses. Learn more HERE!
The Roll Into Reading mobile book tour stopped at 70 in-district meal distribution sites, delivering over 16,000 books to students. Thank you to the dozens of community volunteers who helped prep 5,600 bags to hand out to kids.
The SAISD Foundation also helped plan and organize a Celebrity Readers Series, consisting of both pre-recorded and live readings. Local celebrities including San Antonio's first lady Erika Prosper, KSAT anchor Steve Spriester and H-E-B Buddy read their favorite books to SAISD students, which can be viewed on our YouTube channel. In addition, astronaut and Sam Houston High School alumnus Bernard Harris and award-winning author Sandra Cisneros guided interactive sessions with SAISD students. Over 300 students logged on and asked questions after hearing excerpts from Hidden Figures and The House on Mango Street. Full story here!

Kicking Off
Educator Grants!
It is educator grant season at the SAISD Foundation! We love this time of year because we get to witness firsthand the impact of our fundraising efforts through grants awarded to phenomenal SAISD educators. Educators, who during such a tumultuous time, have gone above and beyond for their students and still wish to offer them more.
Our SAISD educators can apply for the following awards:
Innovative Grants – up to $5,000
New Teacher Grants – $100 award
Mini Grants – up to $500

Recognizing SAISD Front Line Staff
The SAISD Foundation and H-E-B partnered with SAISD to recognize front line SAISD staff for their commitment and dedication to serving SAISD students and their families. From the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, these departments have worked tirelessly to continue providing services that were so greatly needed. Facilities, Food and Nutrition, Mail Service, Technology and Transportation offered creative approaches to meet the needs of our students during such an uncertain time. In recognition of their service following a virtual ceremony with Superintendent Pedro Martinez and department leadership, these employees received two H-E-B gift cards.
