Expanding Student Experiences

Thanks to support from Valero Energy's Benefit for Children and 3M, the purchase of 22 3D printers to be used in 11 elementary schools was made this fall. The SAISD Education Technology department provided training sessions for these teachers to assist in creating meaningful student engagement with these new STEM tools. The students pictured below, from Sarah King Elementary, experienced how to make 3D representations of the sound waves made by their voices when they speak. Social-emotional learning and STEM in action! With the support of Argo Group and our general donors, we will be expanding this program in the spring.

Educator Mini-Grants

178 educator grants have been funded so far this cycle. We anticipate hitting 200 by the end of the year in our pilot match grant partnership with DonorsChoose. This fall middle school science, physical education (PE), and math teachers in SAISD took advantage of a new program - The Science of Sport - offered by Spurs Give with funding from Frost Bank. Pictured here are some of our incredible educators learning new interactive lessons based on basketball. These concepts will excite students in math and science, as well as reinforce math and science in PE. A special thank you to all our educators who jumped in to this opportunity. We look forward to sharing students' experiences early next semester. Thank you Spurs Give and Frost!
