Volunteers Needed to Support
Graduating Seniors of SAISD!
The SAISD Nation Mentor Program recruits members of the SAISD network, staff, alumni, and community to serve as mentors for SAISD graduates attending college after high school. This program is a shared initiative with SAISD Nation and the SAISD Postsecondary Initiatives Department.
What is the commitment?
In April, volunteers will be matched with an SAISD Senior in a one year commitment, from May 2021 - March 2022. Volunteers connect remotely with the paired mentee regularly, refer students to SAISD alumni advisors as necessary for added support and attend monthly remote training sessions / check-ins with other mentors. Learn about the college enrollment process and share your lived experiences to increase student persistence.
Calling all Book Lovers!
To support students at 67 campuses with 200,000+ donated books annually, we need you! With the help of volunteers, Book Buddies delivers new and gently used books to campuses across San Antonio ISD to help students start and grow their own home libraries. Share your love of reading by helping kids in SAISD.
Here’s how you can help!
• Sign up for a 2-hour shift at our warehouse location to help prepare, sort and box donated books to distribute to students. Pick your day and get started HERE. We have added afternoon sessions in April & May, and can always accommodate a day and time for larger volunteer groups.
• Lead small groups of volunteers monthly or quarterly to teach them how to prepare, sort and box the books for distribution. Email csmith@saisd.net if you would like to train to be a lead volunteer.

Grants in Action!
"I am an Art Teacher on a cart and have been looking to begin building an outdoor studio for some time. Due to Covid this has become even more necessary because I am teaching outside for safety with limited infastructure. The purpose of this grant is to extend this into a more functional and enjoyable space for me and my students," said Chloe Walker at Lamar Elementary.
