Preliminary College Enrollment: Class of 2022 |
We continue to be incredibly proud of the systems of support created across the districts' 15 high schools through talented SAISD staff, our funders, and college partners. Hot off the presses, you will see that the current fall report by the National Student Clearinghouse shows 52% college enrollment for the SAISD class of 2022. This will become the baseline for this year and with the hard work of our postsecondary navigators (PSNs) and spring enrollment, this number will only increase. At this point in time last year, the class of 2021 had 45% enrollment. Stay tuned for more data!
Funding for PSNs is currently made possible by USAA and individual donors to the SAISD Foundation with funding for the pilot program originally from the City of San Antonio Health and Human Services Department. |

SAISD's robust system of College Bound Advisors and Alumni Advisors has been developed and supported for the past five years from the Valero and is currently supported with district funding. As you will see from the highlights below, much goes into the support of our students from college enrollment to college graduation. |

More than 35 San Antonio ISD graduates gathered at the Alamo Convocation Center for the SAISD Foundation’s 1st Annual Spring Scholarship Breakfast. The event, built on the partnership between the SAISD Foundation and SAISD's Department of Postsecondary Initiatives, gave students receiving scholarships from the SAISD Foundation a chance to network with their peers and mentors, hear from alumni and pick up their spring checks. We enjoyed spending time with students in colleges and universities as near as Our Lady of the Lake University & Texas A&M University and as far as Loyola University Chicago.
The program featured a panel discussion with young SAISD alumni discussing their pathways and obstacles during their undergraduate years and beyond and how they were able to overcome them. These new #SAISDProud alumni (pictured above) are going places and we are honored to play a role in the stories they are writing.

| New Scholarships Announced for 2023 |
We are excited to announce 10 new scholarships to support the class of 2023!
On our website, you will find a wide array of opportunities for students that are now available to support their postsecondary journey. Thanks to our generous alumni, we have been able to add scholarships for students in the trades, students in athletics, and students from high school that did not previously have dedicated scholarships through the SAISD Foundation. We have also added long-standing alumni funded scholarships to our managed scholarship program to assist alumni and streamline the process for students. We are in conversation with donors year-round to develop new opportunities for each graduating class. Learn more more about establishing a scholarship here. See all current opportunities here.

School-Wide Principal Grants are Back!
We are continuing to award whole-school grants through our principal grant program. In December, we awarded a grant to Collins Garden to support “The Leader in Me” program with books for teachers and the curriculum for all students. In January, we awarded a grant to Highland Park for flexible, choice seating across grade levels. Take a peek at this video by Principal Parker to see why we just had to say yes! Research all shows that flexible seating,(wiggle mats, Hokki stools and ball chairs etc.) gives students more control and responsibility and improves academic engagement. Our own teachers report that flexible seating also improves students' time on task.

Attend, Achieve & Win: Bike Deliveries |
Twenty happy San Antonio ISD students received their brand-new bikes just before the holidays as part of our “Attend, Achieve and Win” attendance incentive! Simon, a student at Collins Garden, said “school is my favorite. I try to be here every day.” For a student at Arnold, who had not had a bike since his family moved to the the United States, he was especially excited to be riding again!
Bikes were built at Force Asset Management’s Annual “Pedals for Kids” event by sponsors and our own Edison High School JROTC and Jefferson High School architecture students. SAISD Foundation staff and Board joined the SAISD Transportation to deliver bikes on a decked-out SAISD bus. Lucky winners were pulled from over 78,000 digital tickets earned during the first 9-week grading period. SAISD students from all campuses can earn entries for their family into a drawing for the end-of-year car giveaway by being in school every day. Click here to learn more about the contest made possible by Frost and Cavender Toyota.
We know that attendance is critical to student success, but did you know that, due to the state funding formula, a 1% point in attendance equates to over $3 million dollars in funding for San Antonio ISD? Texas is one of only 6 states nationally that fund education through Average Daily Attendance (ADA). ADA is not the same as enrollment. Enrollment is the total number of students signed up to attend the school. ADA reflects how often those enrolled students attend school. There are several bills filed in the 2023 Texas Legislature that would change the school finance system from attendance-based funding to enrollment-based funding. Learn more here and here.
We have opportunities for companies and individuals who want to support the student attendance prizes for the 2nd and 3rd 9-week periods. Contact Judy Geelhoed if you'd like to help us with attendance incentives. |
