Investing in Teachers: Educator Mini-Grants

We are honored to be able to invest in the great ideas of teachers and helping to meet the needs of their students as they work to ensure students meet their fullest potential! With the close of our mini-grant cycle for the 22-23 school year we are proud the share that 201 educators were supported this year, with 137 of them being first time mini-grant award recipients. Projects funded reached all grade levels from Pre-K to 12th grade. Books, flexible seating, lab equipment, outdoor play equipment, eSports equipment and light tables are just a few of the items we funded to help bring teachers' ideas to life.

Celebrating Employees Who are Also Donors

This month we celebrated our top two school winners and our SAISD department winner from this year’s employee campaign to support the work of the SAISD Foundation through the United Way. The 2022-23 winners are Burbank HS, Washington ES and Information Technology. We thanked them this month with sundae bars provided by our friends at RBFCU and a special treat for our two school winners, a $1,000 Grant Award! Thank you to all of our fall employee donors. Together we make so much possible.

By request, SAISD employee giving through payroll deduction is now available any time of year through this internal link below. Each week for the rest of the school year, we will draw two winners from all employee donors through either platform at any amount to send a Foundation t-shirt to show our appreciation!

Sam Houston HS

Highlands HS

Burbank HS

Thank you to the alumni who gathered this month to help support students in SAISD. Our staff had the privilege of visiting with many #SAISDProud alumni and are proud to be serving as the fiscal agent for each of the events and scholarships listed below. In addition, Lanier HS was honored at the Alamo on Texas Independence Day and alumni were there in force to show their pride.

  • The Friends of Sam Houston gathered in community and awarded 14 scholarships at their annual scholarship breakfast.
  • Highlands alumni raised funds for the Highlands Education Fund and toured the new campus at an all-alumni dinner.
  • The Burbank Pachanga Party raised funds to support the Burbank Hispanic Scholarships and Alumni Honoree Johnny Reyna announced their family will also support four additional memorial scholarships this year in his brother and fellow alumnus Toby Reyna's name.

State of the District Recap

Thank you to everyone who supported or joined us at the State of the District. The event, hosted by the San Antonio Hispanic and San Antonio Chambers of Commerce and the SAISD Foundation, was Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino's first time taking the stage to speak to the business community about San Antonio ISD’s new Always Learning strategic plan. We know that progress in our most historic district is a combined effort that takes each of us and we thank you for your interest and belief in the power of public education.
