It was an eventful month for our Book Buddies program!
On September 20, we launched a new endeavor, the Book Buddies Bus! Staff from the SAISD English & Language Arts Department, Transportation, school campuses and more gathered to celebrate at our launch party. The party began right after school and concluded with the kickoff of the 2023 Big Give. During this year's Big Give, our community helped us raise $22,000 to purchase brand-new books for our students through the Book Buddies Bus campus deliveries. |
The following Friday, we made our inaugural visit supporting students at Storm Elementary with our friends from SAARTA volunteering on the bus. Seeing the surprised faces as students entered the bus stocked with books for them to take home, reminded us of the importance of this project. Students loved their six books and were so excited that many chose to spread out and begin reading on the spot!
Thank you to the 81 donors who supported us through the Big Give, SAISD Transportation for support in the build-out of the Book Buddies Bus and everyone who supports this initiative! Our kids are grateful to have great books to keep at home. Visit our Book Buddies webpage to learn more about the program. Volunteer opportunities for school visits (mostly Fridays) with the Book Buddies Bus are now live.

Did you know that the Botanical Garden provides FREE admission on school field trips for Title I schools? All of SAISD is Title I so that is all of us!
SAISD educators are invited to join us at the next Educator Night hosted in collaboration with GO RIO Cruises on the Riverwalk on Tuesday, November 14 to learn about their 4th-grade history and TEKS-based tours. Tech Leaders Gain Insight on SAISD Cyber |
The local tech industry came together to learn about the latest innovations and program developments from the cyber and IT programs at Lanier, Sam Houston and CAST Tech. “The Tech Mixer provided an opportunity for SAISD to connect with industry professionals and community leaders to tell not only our story but also our plans for the future.” shares Johnny Vahalik, SAISD Assistant Superintendent for College, Career & Military Readiness. “We appreciated the opportunity to discuss our successes but also our challenges. I also loved the input from the attendees and how they could connect to our students and teachers”, said Vahalik. We will work with SAISD to host school-based site visits to see programs in action. Follow us on social for announcements.

12th Annual Inspire Awards |
Annually, the Inspire Awards sheds light on SAISD alumni and friends of San Antonio ISD who have made a significant impact on our community locally and beyond.
SAISD alumni have been blazing trails and shaping San Antonio and Texas for over a century. Sharing their stories inspires our students, staff, and community and reminds us of the limitless potential of today’s SAISD students as we work to build their foundation. Honoring Friends of the SAISD Foundation and SAISD like Patti Radle, reminds us of the powerful roles any of us can play in ensuring all students in SAISD have an excellent education and thrive. We hope you will join us at our 12th Annual Inspire Awards to recognize this year’s honorees and meet some of our stars of tomorrow. Ticket, sponsorship and event information, and all of our sponsors to date can be found here. A special thank you to Escamilla & Poneck, Embrey, CPS Energy, Firstmark, Joeris, Linebarger and our growing list of sponsors. |
