The SAISD Foundation launched the #ConnectCampaign to raise the funds to support the critical need of closing the digital divide in San Antonio by working alongside San Antonio ISD (SAISD) to bring access to technology devices and internet access for SAISD students to stay connected and engaged with their teachers and classmates through remote learning now extended through the end of the school year.

To date, SAISD has issued nearly 40,000 devices (Chromebooks and iPads). SAISD had a three-year goal for 1:1 technology, and in response to COVID-19 school closures, this goal was addressed in three weeks. The SAISD Foundation’s #ConnectCamaign is focused on raising the funds needed to support monthly Wi-Fi access for 4,000 hot spots so all students can connect with their teachers, classmates and distance learning resources on those devices. More than 3,500 hot spots have been distributed by SAISD to date.

“We are humbled by the generosity of our donor community, they have seen the need and have donated to make sure our SAISD students are engaged during a time where are there are so many uncertainties,” Judy Geelhoed, Executive Director, SAISD Foundation explained. “Our hope with this campaign is to not only raise the funds needed for connectivity, but to allow SAISD students to have some sense of normalcy by connecting with familiar faces, classmates and teachers,” Geelhoed added.
