Educator Mini-Grant: Math Motion with Ms. Gonzalez!
“I was adamant about giving my students hands-on learning,” says Ms. Gonzalez, San Antonio ISD Kindergarten Teacher
For Ms. Gonzalez, allowing her students to work with tools that help them understand their math curriculum was a no-brainer. As an experienced Pre-K teacher moving into kindergarten, she knew that providing her students with the same approach they were familiar with would reduce their learning curve and help them understand more complex math strategies.
Encouraging students to work collaboratively makes learning fun. Using the manipulatives and movement keeps them engaged in their lesson which helps them retain the information they’re learning. Gonzalez shares, “As a kinder teacher, it is hard to get the students engaged. When their mind and bodies are fully engaged, it helps me understand areas where they can grow faster than traditional whole-group learning.”
“Thank you to the donors for this opportunity. It makes teaching fun and doable,” mentioned Gonzalez. Teachers often struggle with making their dream lessons come to life. Donors help bridge the gap, empowering teachers through Educator Grants offered by the SAISD Foundation.
