Young Alumni Highlight: Nezi Cuellar

Emergency Gap donors are some of the most important supporters we have. When a student faces an unexpected cost that threatens their ability to stay in college or attend commencement, they need someone to lean on. That’s where you come in.
The SAISD Foundation is proud to play a small role in these pivotal moments, connecting dollars to students when they need it most.
Nezi, a Jefferson High School graduate and St. Mary’s University alumna, shared:
“I faced an unexpected financial challenge due to the passing of my aunt, who was my mother’s only sister. During this difficult time, I helped my family cover funeral expenses, which unfortunately impacted my ability to pay my tuition for the month of February.
Despite reaching out to my university’s resources, they were unable to provide the support I needed. The emergency grant from the SAISD Foundation was a true lifeline—it allowed me to continue my education without the added burden of financial stress.
Without this grant, I would have had to consider taking out a loan, increasing my financial commitments. Your support made a significant difference in my life, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to access this kind of help when I needed it most. This grant not only helped me stay on track with my education, but also relieved a tremendous amount of stress during a challenging time.”
Nezi’s story is just one of many made possible through the generosity of our Emergency Gap donors.
