In early August, elementary music teachers gathered for a week of training led by UTSA Assistant Professor of music education, Dr. Kristen Pellegrino. Their training was in preparation to expand elementary strings to multiple schools across the District. This expansion is being funded by the SAISD Foundation with a gift from The Charity Ball Association. We are excited for these teachers to recruit fourth and fifth graders to their new programs this fall. This expansion is based on the significant positive student outcomes seen in the elementary strings program at Highland Hills Elementary over the past three years under the leadership of music teacher Jason Jones. Plans are already in the works for a Night of Strings this spring to showcase all of our elementary strings programs. Stay tuned for more!
