Building a greener tomorrow throughTexas Recycles today
The SAISD Foundation is proud to work with schools in SAISD for a recycling contest. Held annually, the recycling contest encourages students to build strong recycling habits that will help them live a more eco-friendly life. Partnered with Unilever, H-E-B and PlayWell, we are excited to host this friendly competition in SAISD! Learn more about the contest and playground revamp below!
The contest takes place in the fall culminating to Texas Recycles Day, recognized annually on November 15.
Recycling Contest
This year, we are excited to have nearly 30 elementary schools and academies competing to collect the most recycling items. Weigh-ins occur weekly and are updated here the following Tuesday.
How We Rank the Schools:
- First, we see who collects the most recycling. We rank the schools from the one that collected the most to the least.
- Then, we check how much each school collected based on the number of students. To be fair, we look at the total recycling for each school and divide it by the number of students. This way, smaller schools can still do well, even if they don’t have as many students.
Points are Assigned:
- Pointes are assigned based on their position in both rankings.
- For example, if a school finishes 1st in total pounds, it gets 33 points, 2nd gets 32 points, and so on.
- This also applies to the ranking for pounds per student.
Winners are considered the best-performing school overall, based on the school with the highest combined score.
