Scholarship Review
(Recruitment in spring annually)
The SAISD Foundation is looking for community virtual volunteers to help review scholarship applications from our incredible SAISD seniors! Each year, we award over 200 scholarships to students pursuing their dreams in college and career training. Your perspective and insights can make a difference in helping select deserving students for these life-changing opportunities. Volunteers will read and score applications online at your convenience.
Alumni Professional Network
Are you a proud graduate of an SAISD public school? Did you begin your educational foundation in San Antonio ISD? You’re invited to give back in a way that transforms lives! Attend learning expeditions – a combination of learning and networking on or near SAISD campuses in blocks of time during the day to engage with fellow alumni, learn about current issues affecting SAISD students, and discover ways to support their career aspirations.
Book Buddies
(Saturdays & Weekday School Visits)
Book Buddies is a program of the SAISD Foundation that provides tens of thousands of free children’s books to students in San Antonio ISD schools. The pivotal goal of our program is to help children grow their own home libraries enabling them to be strong and proud readers. Through Book Buddies, volunteers sort through books by grade level, assess the condition of the books, clean them, and load them on the Book Buddies Bus to be distributed to San Antonio ISD students. Our goal is to provide six books for each student who visits the Book Buddies Bus during a school visit. The initiative aims to foster a joy for reading by having students choose their books to bring home.
Book Buddies is located off Hwy. 90 in Port SA and sorting sessions take place every Saturday from 9:30 am – 12 pm.
SAISD Garden Stewards
Garden Stewards volunteer to support one or more SAISD schools by providing regular maintenance and improvements such as weeding, trimming, filling empty spots with new plants, dividing perennials, and transplanting plants. Stewards are asked to visit the garden weekly to weed, water, and remove trash as needed throughout the garden season. If the steward will be away for part of the season, the steward can ask a friend or another Garden Steward to help during that time or check with the volunteer coordinator. Many of the locations are easy-to-care-for gardens of 3-6 raised beds, needing just some pruning, weeding, watering, and a love for seeing things grow.
New Teacher Shopping Day
For the past two years, the SAISD Foundation held a shopping day for the hundreds of new SAISD teachers who were part of the district’s New Teacher Orientation. Every teacher who shopped with us received a $100 to spend on items for their classrooms. They shopped and we were there at checkout to pay the bill and help them start their school year of right.
Stay tuned to volunteer for this event in July 2025!
