scholarship-donor-hernandez-lanierMeet Jerry Hernandez. He’s a 1965 Lanier High School graduate and one of a growing list of alum who are making a difference in the lives of SAISD students by reconnecting with and giving back to their alma maters.

There are many ways the SAISD Foundation works with alumni and businesses that want to contribute to SAISD schools, and in Jerry’s case, we helped establish a two-year renewable scholarship for Lanier students pursuing careers in business, accounting or banking at four-year universities. (Jerry’s background is in business.)

The 72-year-old Lanier alum took his initial IRA distribution to set up two $5,000 scholarships, which were awarded for the first time last year, and he plans to continue providing support for this scholarship in the future.

We love Jerry’s story because it shows the creative ways people are giving back to the school communities that helped shaped them, and in this case, helping to pave a smoother path to higher education for students.

Read our story about Jerry and how his scholarship is helping students. If you are interested in establishing a scholarship or want to support an SAISD school in some other way, give us a call at 210- 554-2235 or email info@saisdfoundation.com. Let’s work together!
