March 2026 Newsletter – Driving SAISD Forward

This March, the SAISD Foundation kicked off 20 years of investing in our students, teachers, and schools. While we are proud of our history, we are even more excited about the future. As the SAISD Foundation enters its 20th year, we are taking a moment to reflect on two decades of unwavering commitment to the San Antonio Independent School District. Since our founding, the Foundation has served as a vital “anchor” for the urban core, bridging the gap between community resources and classroom needs.

“Better Begins Here” – Investing in Our Own

Travis Early College High School in the teacher pathway

What happens when high school students don’t just dream of college, but dream of returning to their own communities as teachers? At Travis Early College High School, they are doing more than just filling vacancies—they are building a sustainable, homegrown legacy.

We sat down with the visionary leaders behind a new scholarship dedicated to Travis AAT (Associate of Arts in Teaching) students. With over 50 years of collective experience in K–12 education, they share why investing in these future educators now is the key to solving the teacher shortage and strengthening our local schools for the long haul.

From the specific “aha” moment that sparked the fund to the ambitious goal of supporting the entire 2026 graduating cohort, this is a story of purpose, passion, and partnership.

The Future of STEM Just Pulled Into the Parking Lot

Students at Sam Houston High School enjoying eSports aboard the Pathfinder STEM bus

We are excited to introduce the newest member of the team, Jamie Hansen, our STEM Program Coordinator, who is officially taking the wheel of our two traveling STEM Buses: Voyager and Pathfinder.

With 18 years of experience and a passion for “messy” discovery, Jamie is transforming our STEM buses into mobile laboratories where zip codes don’t define access to technology. From flight simulators that teach physics to 3D printers that turn ideas into physical objects, Jamie’s mission is to create that “dinner table moment”—where students go home so excited about what they built, they can’t stop talking about it.

Want to know what it’s like to “bank the wings” of a flight simulator or watch a 3D-printed gear you designed come to life? Read our interview with Jamie to see how we’re bringing the future directly to our students’ doorsteps.
